The unknown photographer noted that the tallest of the three structures was Asantehene Prempeh I's "hall of justice," while that on the photo's left belonged to the ruler of Mampong (to Kumase's northeast), and that on the right to the ruler of Bekwai (south of Kumase). Why these two rulers held court sessions within the Asantehene's palace is uncertain, but the architecture clearly differentiates the Asantehene's court by its height and decoration
