Brass Snake Head Excavated in 1956/57

South African archaeologist A. J. F. Goodwin excavated this snake head when working on former palace grounds now behind the House of Assembly. This is the earlier, plainer type of snake head once present on palace towers, and probably dates from the 16th century. It was missing the lower jaw and shows other damage. It forms part of the collection of the Nation Museum, Benin City
