The 19th-century palace held relatively little furniture. Clay benches served as seats, and raised clay platform beds provided comfort with the addition of textiles. Large chests made from a single tree length provided storage space for garments and jewelry. The Igbesanmwan carvers decorated this nearly seven-foot long massive box with interlace patterns, as well as a rosette on each end. The British found it in Oba Ovoranmwen's bedroom, filled with coral and clothing.
